Our Story
Behind the Scenes
Rafiki was founded in 2021 by Henry Birkett and Dori Van Outersterp who wanted to raise money for a cause close to their hearts. Rafiki is a daycare and Orphanage where Henry and Dori visited in early 2020. They fell in love with the kids, the place and the couple who run it. Henry and Dori raised money and built three classrooms while staying there. However, they realised that Rafiki was in need of much more which is why they have set up Rafiki Foundation, to fundraise and provide Rafiki Orphanage with what the kids need to live a safe and stable life.

About
Rafiki Day Care & Orphanage is a non-profit organization which was established in 2018 by founders Joseph and Josephine.
Their vision was to assist struggling families around the local community, by providing an oppurtunity for the parents to work and earn a steady income all while their children are safe and in good care. They also started the orphanage from the living room where they housed a handful of kids, which soon grew. Joseph and Josephine joined PMGY Tanzania where volunteers came out and built them a small building to house the orphans.

However, during the last three years, it has become more obvious that more orphaned and neglected children were living in difficult conditions.

It became clear to Joseph and Josephine that these children too needed their help, this is when they started taking care of orphans and providing them with pre-school education, food, clothes and of course a home!
